10 Oct - Another SEGA game is set to have its big screen adaptation, as Universal announced that it will be turning "Shinobi" into a movie.

The movie will be directed by Sam Hargrave, the stuntman-turned-director most known for his Netflix hit movie, "Extraction" starring Chris Hemsworth.

"Shinobi" was created in 1987 as an arcade game
The series of hack-and-slash games was first released as an arcade video game in 1987, and went on to become one of SEGA's most known video games aside from Alex Kidd and Sonic the Hedgehog.

The main character of Shinobi is Joe Musashi, a ninja who has to defeat the ninja crime syndicate Zeed following their rise to power.

The project came on the heels of the success of game-to-movie adaptations like Illumination and Nintendo's "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" and Blumhouse's "Five Nights at Freddy's".

"The Super Mario Bros. Movie" made USD 1.4 billion at the box office
