24 Dec - Contrary to previous prediction, it was "Sonic the Hedgehog 3", and not "Mufasa: The Lion King" that made it big at the box office in its opening weekend.

The animated feature from SEGA and Paramount Pictures made USD 62 million when it was released on the weekend, making it the second-best start for a December slot since "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Witch, the Lion and the Wardrobe" in 2005.

Meanwhile, "Mufasa", which was expected to take home a huge opening number for Disney, did not manage to earn as expected, having debuted in the US to the amount of USD 35 million.

The film also didn't do as well overseas, earning USD 87.2 million instead of the projected USD 125 million.

However, all is not lost for Disney, as "Moana 2" is now accumulating USD 790.2 million at the box office.
