20 Aug – Syamsul Yusuf's legal representative, Azmi Mohd Rais has confirmed rumours that the filmmaker has filed for divorce against wife of more than one year, Ira Kazar. The Syarie lawyer shared as much with the media on 19 August, telling them the filing was made at 2pm the same day due to irreconcilable differences. "I will give more information about the upcoming mention soon and confirm the said mention," he added.
Rumours of marital woes between the two sparked as early as October last year, though both parties had given no response to it. Syamsul tied the knot with Ira, real name Faghirah Fatini, in January last year in a ceremony held in Southern Thailand. The news came amid the divorce battle between him and his then wife Puteri Sarah Liyana, who had been alleging that Syamsul was cheating on her with Ira.
When contacted by the media for comment following the news, Syamsul's father and Skop Productions founder Datuk Yusof Haslam stated that he has no knowledge about his son's decision to divorce his wife of one and a half years. He stated that Syamsul and his wife have not been in contact with the family since Syamsul's second marriage to Ira. "He didn't even visit the family during Eid. He didn't contact us, so we wouldn't dare to comment since we know nothing about this," he said. This response was contradictory to his wife Datin Patimah Ismail, who was elated over the news. "If it's true, I am truly grateful. I hope that Syamsul will return to the right path," she told Harian Metro. At the same time, she claimed to have already forgiven Ira Kazar and her family for ruining Syamsul and Puteri Sarah Liyana's marriage. "What's done is done. Their marriage is destroyed, and their kids became the victims," she added.
