12 Aug - The 62nd Asia-Pacific Film Festival (APFF) is now officially launched.

At the press conference held at GSC Mid Valley Megamall recently, Aron Koh, Organising Chairman of the 62nd APFF, said: "The return of APFF to Malaysia is not only a celebration of cinema but a statement of confidence in our creative industries. This festival belongs to all who believe in the power of stories that transcend borders."

The 2025 edition will take place from 29 November to 6 December in Kuala Lumpur, with all screenings held at GSC Cinemas, the festival's Official Cinema Partner. The event is organised by Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian-based company dedicated to producing, curating, and promoting works that champion creative integrity and regional voices.

Pansha, Secretary General of the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), added: "Nothing feels more like home than bringing APFF back to Malaysia. We have always believed in initiatives that uplift communities and give space to emerging storytellers. Cinema remains one of the most powerful mediums for connection and cultural exchange, and APFF is here to bridge that dialogue."

The Academy Award-winning cinematographer Peter Pau has been appointed Jury President for the Asia-Pacific Competition. Born in Hong Kong into a family deeply rooted in cinema, Pau graduated from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1983 and went on to earn global acclaim for his lush, poetic visuals, most famously in "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon|, which won him the Oscar for Best Cinematography. With a career spanning over four decades and a filmography that includes "The Bride with White Hair", "Perhaps Love", and "Sword Master", Pau brings an extraordinary legacy of visual storytelling and international prestige to this year's jury.

The festival also named Malaysian actor Syafiq Kyle as the recipient of the FPA Asia-Pacific Rising Icon Award, recognising his growing impact and contribution to the regional film industry. Since emerging as a finalist in Hero Remaja, Syafiq has built a reputation as one of Malaysia's most dynamic leading men, with recent standout performances in "Sheriff: Narko Integriti", "The Experts" and "Blood Brothers: Bara Naga".

Another key highlight was the unveiling of the official key visual for the 62nd edition, created by Malaysian independent artist and designer Iqbal Hakim Boo. The design reflects APFF's ongoing commitment to championing regional artistic identity and creative integrity.

The Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA) serves as the Endorsing Partner, with Lomo Pictures Sdn. Bhd. as the Organiser and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) as the Supporting Partner. GSC International Screens joins as the Official Cinema Partner.

The festival is proudly sponsored by KK Mart, HotChain Media, and Nuvo Clinic, with Fortune Media as the Strategic Partner and MARQI as the Digital Technology Partner. Their contributions not only ensure the successful staging of the 62nd APFF but also help strengthen its mission to connect and celebrate the Asia-Pacific film community.

Founded in 1954 by the Federation of Motion Picture Producers in Asia-Pacific (FPA), APFF is a travelling festival that has been hosted in different member countries over its six-decade history, celebrating excellence in cinema and fostering cultural exchange across the region.
