Joanne Goh, Founder and President of MIFFest, delivered a moving welcome that captured the festival's spirit: "This year, our theme is Infinity, beautifully reflecting the endless possibilities of cinema. Stories have the incredible power to move us, challenge us, and bring us together. In times of division, film gently reminds us of what we all share: emotion, humanity, and hope."

The president then graciously presented appreciation tokens to the dedicated MIFFest Selection Committee and Jury Panel, recognising their tireless efforts in curating this year's exceptional film lineup.

Opening Film: "Ninavau" - A Story Rooted in Identity and Truth

The night's highlight was the premiere of "Ninavau", masterfully directed by Bebbra Mailin. This deeply moving feature follows a Kadazan woman returning to Sabah for her sister's wedding, quietly carrying a personal transformation she has yet to share. The film thoughtfully explores themes of family bonds, cultural identity, and inner truth, offering audiences an authentic glimpse into East Malaysian life.

Expanding Partnerships and Global Reach

This year's MIFFest continues to flourish with the introduction of the ASEAN Film & TV Summit - ASEAN On Screen, strengthening regional collaborations and celebrating Southeast Asia's diverse creative voices. Running alongside the 25th European Film Festival Malaysia, MIFFest reinforces its important role as a cultural bridge between East and West.

Building Toward the Malaysia Golden Global Awards

The opening ceremony was streamed live on TikTok, giving film enthusiasts worldwide front-row access to Malaysia's biggest night in cinema.

The festival now builds momentum toward the highly anticipated 8th Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA), which received nearly 700 submissions from filmmakers worldwide. Nine exceptional films have been selected to compete for the coveted awards.

Audiences can join the excitement through live streams on TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube, while Unifi TV and ViuTV will provide delayed broadcasts for broader regional access.
