"Abang Adik" makes history with ASEAN Records recognition

12 Feb - "Abang Adik" has made history as the first Chinese-language film to receive ASEAN Records recognition.

The news was shared by the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS), saying, "Since December 2023, Abang Adik has been screened in Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Italy, Thailand and China. In January 2025, director Jin Ong and the film's creative team brought Abang Adik to the silver screen in Japan and now they have received another extraordinary honour."

At the awards ceremony held on 10 February, director Jin Ong expressed his joy at the recognition and considered it an important achievement for "Abang Adik" as well as a great appreciation for the entire team, cast, crew, investors and production.

Its producer, actress Angelica Lee also recalled the journey of the film, saying, "We started with a small dream, giving a voice to those who are often marginalised and producing Malaysian films that can touch the hearts of audiences around the world. We never imagined that this journey would touch so many hearts in various countries."

The film, which grossed RM5.7 million in Malaysia, HKD2.8 million in Hong Kong, NTD100 million in Taiwan and RMB3 million in China, has won 28 international awards and receiving 69 nominations at various film festivals around the world.
