Les' Copaque's "Dongeng Sang Kancil" reaches RM6.3m box office mark

"Dongeng Sang Kancil" showcases all-local animation talent
9 Jan - Les' Copaque Production recently announced that their latest animated feature, "Dongeng Sang Kancil" has now made RM6.3 million since its post-Christmas release.

Despite the good reception, Les Copaque's Founder and Managing Director Haji Burhanuddin Md. Radzi said that the company is targeting to earn RM20 million in order to make profit, seeing that the film was made with a budget of RM8 million.

"Most of the budget went to the staff's salary. Praise be to God, we have now made RM6.3 million and we hope that the movie will be screened up until the school holidays so that we can earn more," he said.

Burhanuddin also stated that he was happy that even the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, went to watch the film alongside his grandchildren.

"This is the work of local talents. We did not use any foreign talents at all," he added.

Burhanuddin also said that "Dongeng Sang Kancil" is the first local animated film that uses 3D hybrid techniques and 2D special effects.

As for overseas release, he said that they will focus on Malaysia and Brunei for the time being, but that the company plans to submit the movie to international film festivals.
