"Gayong" gets patriotic re-release

27 Aug - In conjunction with Malaysia's 68th Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, production company SOL Pictures Sdn. Bhd. and distributor Empire Film Solution, in collaboration with TGV Cinemas, will be re-releasing the Beto Kusyairy-starrer "Gayong" in cinemas from 28 August to 17 September.

Executive Producer Khairul Anuar Latip said that the initiative aims to further enliven the spirit of the national celebrations by showcasing a film that highlights patriotism, unity and national identity.

"When it was first released, Gayong received overwhelming support from audiences. However, a lot of movie lovers missed the chance to watch it, and thus we are now giving the opportunity for viewers to catch it in cinemas once again," he said.

The movie stars Beto Kusyairy in the lead

"Moreover, we feel this film is particularly relevant during the Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day period, as the core story revolves around a figure who dedicated his life to defending the dignity of his people, religion and homeland against colonial forces."

Directed by Faisal Ishak, "Gayong" is inspired by the real-life story of the founder of Silat Gayong, the late Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman (ADMAR).

Originally released in cinemas on 5 May, it also features the performances of Nabila Huda, Syafie Naswip, and Indonesian actor, Yayan Ruhian.

Khairul added that the re-release will feature a new and enhanced version of the film, combining a director's cut and film critic version, offering audiences a more special viewing experience.

"We've also added exclusive preview clips from 'Gayong 2', which is expected to hit cinemas next year. The film will be shown at TGV Cinemas nationwide, and the ticket price is very affordable, which is RM10."
