14 May - Gerard Depardieu has been found guilty of sexual assault by a Paris court.

In a ruling that was announced on 13 May, the actor was given 18-month suspended sentence for assaulting two women, a production designer and an assistant director, referred only as Sarah and Amelie in court, on the set of Jean Becker's 2021 French film "Les Volets Verts" ("The Green Shutters").

It is noted that Depardieu is also fined EUR 29,040 and his name will also be listed in the national sex offender registry.

This is the first successful case against the French actor, who has faced multiple allegations of inappropriate sexual behaviours for the past decades.

Said Carine Durrieu-Diebolt, the lawyer representing victim Amelie, "It is the victory of two women, but it is the victory of all the women beyond this trial. Today we hope to see the end of impunity for an artist in the world of cinema."

The 76-year-old Depardieu has denied the charges against him repeatedly, saying that he was misinterpreted by the two women, and that he was "not into groping" being an old man that he is.

Depardieu may come back to stand trial later this year for a rape allegation made by actress Charlotte Arnould.
