"How to Train Your Dragon" dethrones "Lilo & Stitch" at the box office

17 Jun - DreamWorks Animation's feature of "How to Train Your Dragon" has soared at the box office, as it made nearly USD 200 million globally in its three-day opening collection.

The film, which is a live-action remake of the hit animated feature of the same name, accumulated USD 83.7 million in the US alone, and added another USD 114.1 million internationally.

It is noted that unlike its rival Disney, this is the first time that DreamWorks Animation has done a live-action version of its hit animation.

The film is also the first movie to have dethroned "Lilo & Stitch" from the number one spot at the box office since the latter premiered on 22 May.

On the other hand, "Lilo & Stitch" has made another USD 46.6 million at the box office in its fourth weekend, which means that it has now grossed USD 858.54 million. It is currently, the second highest grossing film of the year behind "A Minecraft Movie" (USD 950 million).
