3 Nov - After Namewee denied drug use and involvement in the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh, the police confirmed that the singer-songwriter was detained back in October and charged with two drug-related offences.

In a statement released on 3 November, Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said that the 42-year-old performer, real name Wee Meng Chee, was arrested by the Dang Wangi police team at a city hotel, where they discovered nine blue pills believed to be ecstasy.

He added that Namewee was remanded for two days after an initial urine screening tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.

"The first charge, under Section 39A(1) of the Act, was for possession of drugs... The second charge, under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, was for drug use after testing positive for the substances," he said, adding that Namewee entered a not guilty plea. The court granted him bail set at RM4,000 with one surety.

The case has been scheduled for mention in court on 18 December.

In a previous statement made on Instagram on 2 November, Namewee denied allegations that he was involved in the death of Iris Hsieh or that he was taking drugs, adding, "At most, I've been drinking more lately. Believe it or not, the truth will come out when the police report comes out. It should take another 2 or 3 months."

He also slammed the emergency response time, claiming the ambulance took nearly an hour to arrive after he called 999.

Namewee mentioned that he had not responded before because the case was still under investigation and he could not disclose the details. He also said that he had received blackmail recently and said, "If you want to continue playing, we are ready to play along to the end."

Iris Hsieh was reportedly in Malaysia to work on content with Namewee prior to her passing.
