22 Sep - Christopher Nolan has been elected president of the Directors Guild of America (DGA), as revealed by the organisation on 20 September.

The "Oppenheimer" director succeeds Lesli Linka Glatter, who served two terms as president beginning 2021. The filmmaker was elected by delegates representing more than 19,000 members of the guild.

"To be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career," said Nolan in a statement. "Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild's membership for entrusting me with this responsibility."

"I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to collaborating with her and the newly elected Board to achieve important creative and economic protections for our members," he added.

A member of the DGA since 2001, Nolan has served on its National Board and Western Directors Council since 2015. He also chairs the DGA's Theatrical Creative Rights Committee and its recently formed Artificial Intelligence Committee.

His election comes as the DGA prepares for its next contract negotiations. The guild's current agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers is set to expire in mid-2026.
