3 Sep - "Paraxnormal", a new psychological horror comedy from Nanord Studio Production, is making waves in local cinemas with its unique blend of horror, psychology, and dark comedy. The film, which has been screening nationwide since 28 August, offers audiences more than just typical ghostly scares.

The story follows four childhood friends - Yasin, Asri, Fateh, and Anas - who reunite after 30 years of separation. When Anas proposes a daring plan to rob the abandoned and allegedly haunted Villa Casablanca, believing it contains treasures worth over RM10 million, the group discovers that what awaits them is far more terrifying than any supernatural presence.

Producer Nurul Ain Nordin emphasises that "Paraxnormal" goes beyond conventional horror storytelling. "This film is not merely a display of ghostly tales, but instead explores the dark side of human nature such as greed, revenge, and betrayal," she explains.

The project originated from an unexpected source of inspiration. "The idea came during a casual conversation with my friend, actor and scriptwriter Epy Kodiang, who also stars in the film. We had previously collaborated on a horror comedy script before," Nurul Ain reveals.

"We believe this genre still has its own fanbase, and eventually the idea emerged to produce 'Paraxnormal,' which not only entertains but carries a deep message about the meaning: 'sometimes what's scary isn't the ghost, but your own friend,'" she adds.

The film features a diverse cast combining veteran actors with fresh talent. Joey Daud plays Yasin, Azhan Rani portrays Asri, Epy Kodiang takes on the role of Fateh, and Amir Nafis appears as Anas. Supporting performances come from seasoned actors Ellie Suriaty Omar and Kamarool Haji Yusoff.

"With the combination of actors from various backgrounds and generations, they successfully created extraordinary harmony and made 'Paraxnormal' a compelling watch in cinemas," Nurul Ain enthused, and shared that they faced unexpected challenges during production.

"Among the challenges faced were technical problems such as monitors and cables that broke even after being replaced, as well as strange incidents that were difficult to explain. There were days during filming when crew members claimed to see 'two Ains' simultaneously at the location, in addition to an incident where the assistant director went berserk for no reason and then suddenly fainted, which caused filming to be postponed," she revealed.

The producer hopes that "Paraxnormal" will be well-received by audiences and become a local horror film that leaves an impact.
