"Penghukum: Nusantara Assassin" aim to put local cinema on the SEA map

18 Nov - Production house Terang Films, in collaboration with PMD Production, is serving up a fresh action film titled "Penghukum: Nusantara Assassin" that weaves together themes of redemption, revenge, and forgiveness - all set against the rich backdrop of the Nusantara world.

With this film, distributor D'Ayu Pictures is aiming to push local action cinema beyond our borders and into the wider Southeast Asian region, showcasing the powerful synergy between storytelling, culture and Nusantara identity.

Director Azlan Norani shared that the film was originally titled "Bookmaker: Nusantara Assassin," but after some discussion, the production team decided on "Penghukum: Nusantara Assassin" to emphasise the Malay language and preserve the Nusantara essence in the fictional world they've created.

"For anyone who's into action but also wants a story packed with emotion, this is the film for you," he said at the gala premiere screening of "Penghukum: Nusantara Assassin" held at TGV Suria KLCC on last Thursday night.

"Penghukum: Nusantara Assassin" follows Salahuddin, a man in his 60s who has been raising his only grandchild, Yasmin, since her parents' deaths. Their lives take a dark turn when Yasmin goes missing after an incident at school.

Salahuddin's investigation uncovers a heartbreaking fact - that his grandchild has fallen victim to a human trafficking syndicate. In his quest for justice, he returns to his former life as a hired assassin under the secret agency Pustakalayah, which operates behind the facade of an old Malay heritage library.

The film features an impressive lineup of local talent including Razib Salimin, Yusra Akma, Syazwan Zulkifly, Arwan Umar, Sahronizam Noor, Azhan Rani, Bell Ngasri, Puteri Sari, and Dr. Haji Halim Ikhsan.
