21 Nov - Indian newspaper Hindustan Times just did something unprecedented on 19 November when they turned their entire front page into "Rajinikanth Times" to mark the superstar's 50 years in cinema.

For the first time in the publication's 100-year history, they've dedicated the full front page to a single person. The masthead was completely redesigned, and the front page transformed into a visual journey through Rajinikanth's career, from his 1975 debut in "Apoorva Raagangal" to recent hits like "Jailer".

The tribute, created in collaboration with Amazon Prime Video and OTTplay, carried the bold headline: "50 years didn't make him a legend; he made the last 50 years legendary."

For those unfamiliar with Rajinikanth's pull in Indian cinema, this gesture speaks volumes. The Tamil superstar, real name Shivaji Rao Gaekwad and who started as a bus conductor in Bengaluru, has built a career that's spanned five decades and crossed borders. His fanbase across South and Southeast Asia remains devoted, with followers treating him less like an actor and more like an icon worthy of reverence.

In India, fans have built temples in his honour and queue outside his Chennai home for blessings. His signature style, from the way he flips a cigarette to his memorable one-liners, has influenced pop culture for generations.

Fifty years is an eternity in cinema, where trends shift constantly and new faces emerge every year. That Rajinikanth has not only survived but thrived through it all says something about his staying power - Thalaivar remains.
