"Soloz: Game of Life" is a cinematic celebration of e-sports and family values

"Soloz: Game of Life" aims to educate families about the evolving landscape of digital entertainment
23 Jan - In a noteworthy year for Malaysia's film industry, "Soloz: Game of Life" stands out as a pioneering exploration of the mobile gaming world, particularly focusing on Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Inspired by the life of e-sports luminary Muhammad Faris Zakaria, affectionately known as Soloz, the film showcases not just competition, but also critical themes of family, friendship, and dedication.

The director and star of "Soloz: Game of Life" shared their insights and excitement about the film during an interview at the gala premiere, held earlier this week at GSC The Starling Mall, Petaling Jaya.

Director Syafiq Yusof believes Soloz's story deserves to be told on screen, emphasising that "this film is inspired by a true story, not based on it." He elaborated, "As filmmakers, we use creativity to change the storyline so that it becomes better and more compact within the two hours of screening."

Syafiq's research on the Mobile Legends community revealed Soloz's character to be especially captivating. "When I was young, playing video games was seen as a bad habit," he said. "But Soloz has changed the perception that even video game players can be useful human beings."

Syafiq was aware that venturing into the e-sports genre posed significant challenges. He described this film as the "most challenging" project he has ever worked on. "It is different from the film genres that I always produce such as horror, police, gangster, and rempit genres," he added. "Once in a while, we need a new genre and according to the times."

Notably, Soloz himself shared his hopes for the film. He believes it can open the eyes of society, particularly parents who often discourage their children from pursuing video games. "When this film was proposed, I told Syafiq that my life story is ordinary, but many teenagers use me as an example of a successful video game player to their parents," he explained. "After I watched the movie, I understood to some extent that in the past, my family was strongly opposed to playing video games."

The film underscores the vital lessons about balancing passion with education. "Young people need to prioritise education and have knowledge before making a decision to venture into the field of e-sports," Soloz cautioned.

"We want to stop teenagers from playing video games. It is difficult because it is entertainment for them, but parents need to control the time they play," he added.

Bringing the thrilling world of e-sports to life, "Soloz: Game of Life" features intense competition, particularly highlighting the rivalry between TheBoss team and the Singaporean team, Vengeance. Syafiq shared that this film is loaded with useful messages such as the value of family love and team spirit.
