22 May - WAU Animation is aiming to earn RM60 million at the box office for their latest "Ejen Ali" movie, "Ejen Ali The Movie 2", following the success of the first film six years ago. The studio's CEO Usamah Zaid Yasin told the media recently that Ejen Ali has the potential to grow and to develop more stories, and hopes that the second film will be loved by the audience. "The target is RM60 million, but even if we don't reach the target, God willing, there will still be an Ejen Ali 3 film. But, I don't know the exact time because producing an animated film is neither easy nor cheap," he said.
Usamah was at the gala night and premiere of the film in Putrajaya on 20 May, which was attended as well by the Chief Executive Officer of Media Prima Television Network and Primeworks Studios, Nini Yusof and the Head of Komet Productions, Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar. "I think that with a sequel, there are advantages and challenges. The advantage is that when there is a successful first film, the brand already exists. That means people already know it, there are fans and a lot of recognition. But at the same time, the expectation is high too. If you can't achieve it, it will go down quicker," he said.
The first "Ejen Ali" movie made RM30 million at the box office. "Ejen Ali The Movie 2" will be released nationwide on 22 May.
