25 Feb - Antoine Fuqua recently admitted that helming the Michael Jackson biopic was a spiritual journey for him.

Speaking about the Lionsgate movie, "Michael," the director said that Michael Jackson had been a big influence on his career as a director, as the King of Pop himself was someone who "refused to get put in a box as just a Black artist only."

"Michael's whole life was giving to people this joy of his voice. When I watched him on TV, he was always larger than life. For me as a filmmaker, it wasn't a leap to see it in a cinematic way," he said.

Fuqua added that one will not understand Michael Jackson as a human being unless one goes on a journey and understand the struggles the singer faced between his love of his family and his love for music.

The upcoming movie, which stars Michael Jackson's own nephew Jaafar as the music icon, is set to be released on 24 April.

"Michael" co-stars Colman Domingo and Nia Long as Jackson's parents Joe and Katherine, as well such as Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate and Derek Luke.
