AR Murugadoss says his movies didn't fuel Vijay's real-life political ambitions

14 Jul - AR Murugadoss has dismissed the notion that his political dramas with Vijay were actually both inspired by and an inspiration for the incumbent Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's real-life political ambition.

The filmmaker, who has made political movies like "Kaththi" and "Sarkar" for Vijay, dismissed speculations of a hidden agenda, saying that "Kaththi" script started after his stint as an assistant to a dialogue writer.

"I wanted to do a dialogue-based movie after Ramana, a film that connects with society. That's how the Kaththi script started. I wrote it based on the situation at that time and Thalapathy Vijay's mood. We wanted to make a movie that was the complete opposite of Thuppakki," he said.

Vijay plays dual role in "Kaththi"

Murugadoss added, "It was not done for Vijay's political aspirations. We didn't even do Sarkar with that intention."

In 2014's "Kaththi," Vijay played a dual role, as a petty thief who assumes the identity of his lookalike and attempts to lead a rebellion by farmers from the latter's village, Thanoothu, and helps them fight against an entrepreneur who exploited Thanoothu's water resources.

In "Sarkar" (2018), Vijay played a corporate raider who raises awareness against electoral fraud and contests as a non-partisan politician in the elections amidst several attempts made on his life and reputation.
