27 Mar - "Because of You Ka Kui," a cinematic tribute and music event film was officially launched at the 30th Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART).

More than a film, "Because of You Ka Kui" is a big-screen musical tribute experience dedicated to the life, music, and artistic spirit of Wong Ka Kui, the visionary frontman of Beyond, widely regarded as the most influential Canto rock band of all time.

Directed by Rosa Pang and was decades in the making, this cinematic event brings audiences closer to the man behind the legend through intimate conversations with his closest friends and collaborators. Rather than mythologising an icon, the film offers a deeply human portrait, revealing the ordinary soul whose voice and convictions moved millions.

Featuring rare concert footage, never-before-seen archival materials, and unreleased works, this music event film invites audiences to rediscover Wong Ka Kui, not through nostalgia alone, but through the enduring power of his beliefs, artistry, and cultural impact.

It is a once-in-a-generation cinematic tribute, designed for the big screen, where music, memory, and emotion converge into a shared experience for fans across generations.

More than three decades on, Wong Ka Kui's music continues to transcend time and geography. Beyond attracts over 1.08 million monthly listeners on Spotify, with "Boundless Oceans, Vast Skies" surpassing 72.1 million streams to date. Across digital platforms, their songs remain deeply embedded in global music culture, proving that Ka Kui's voice still echoes powerfully today.

Malaysia remain one of the strongest and most passionate territories for Beyond's music. Tribute concerts continue to draw significant audiences - demonstrating a fan base that is not only nostalgic, but actively engaged and emotionally connected across generations.

The film is scheduled for release in Malaysia in June 2026, building momentum towards Wong Ka Kui's birthday on 10 June, transforming the release into a meaningful nationwide tribute moment for fans. The film will also roll out across Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, and Brunei, with additional territories to be announced soon.
