13 Mar - Award-winning singer-songwriter Billie Eilish was revealed to have been in talks to make her acting debut.

And it is for an adaptation of Sylvia Plath's "The Bell Jar".

The singer reportedly will play the protagonist Esther Greenwood, a 19-year-old undergrad in the 1950s, who descends into mental illness amid the societal expectations for women.

The 1963 book, which was the only novel written by Plath prior to her suicide, was described as "semi-autobiographical" for Plath. It was published a month before her passing.

The project will be directed by Sarah Polley of "Women Talking" fame, with Focus Features to distribute.

No news as to whether Eilish will be providing music for the film as well.
