FST launches new brand identity
28 Apr - After decades without a cinema of its own, the historic Johor town of Muar is finally set for a silver screen experience. FST Cinemas has announced plans to open a seven-hall standalone cinema complex at The Hub Business Park Muar, developed in collaboration with YKL Capital Sdn Bhd, with a targeted opening in the third quarter of 2027.

The announcement came on the heels of Five Star Trading (FST)'s rebranding launch, attended by FINAS Chairman Datuk Hans Isaac, where the 40-year-old homegrown entertainment group unveiled a refreshed identity anchored by the tagline "Feel Stories Together" and a new positioning as "Your Friendly Neighbourhood Cinema."

FST Cinemas General Manager Dr Sai Suthan Krishnan said the Muar development is a deliberate move to bring cinema closer to underserved communities. "Muar currently does not have an operational cinema, and we see an opportunity to bring that experience closer to the community," he said.

The complex will seat between 800 and 900 patrons and is designed as a standalone destination rather than a mall-based multiplex - promising upgrades in seating, sound, projection quality, ambience, and concessions.

The Muar project is part of FST's wider ambition to grow from 16 to at least 21 cinemas by Q4 2027, with a deliberate focus on suburban and underpenetrated markets. The group is also investing in digital transformation across its film exhibition, distribution, and production divisions.

For Muar residents, the wait for a hometown cinema experience is nearly over.
