12 Aug - Julie Andrews has recently confirmed that she is not going to return as Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the third instalment of "The Princess Diaries".

The 90-year-old British icon, who was asked about the project recently, told Today.com that she is not going to be in the Anne Hathaway-starrer.

"I think the story is slightly different, and I'm not quite sure how they're dealing with that. But it's too late for me to do it. I think the story has to continue in Princess Mia. It's her story. It's not really mine," she said.

In a different interview with InStyle, she said that she had declined the offer seeing that she is, in a way, retired.

"[The film's creative team] asked me all last year if I would be keen to do it. It was very very hard to say 'no,' but I did because I thought I had a wonderful ride, and this one I felt would flourish very well and wouldn't need Granny going in there at my age," she added.

Andrews and Hathaway's collaboration was what made the first two movies work. The actress played the role of the Genovian queen, who mentored her clueless granddaughter Mia Thermopolis to become the next ruler.
