27 Jan - "Avatar: Fire and Ash" has finally been dethroned in the US by Chris Pratt-starrer, "Mercy".

The sci-fi thriller, which made its debut on 23 January, amassed USD 11.2 million, which made it sufficient enough to finally be the one to take the James Cameron blockbuster out of its place.

However, the success was mainly due to the fact that the third "Avatar" film has already been the top film for five weeks and in cinemas for six. "Mercy" itself performed lower than expectation, earning less than its projected opening of USD 12 million.

At the same time, the film did not perform well at the international box office, earning only USD 11.6 million from 80 markets, bringing a global tally of USD 22.8 million.

On the other hand, "Avatar: Fire and Ash" has now made USD 1.378 billion globally. Despite making the billion-dollar club, the film was unable to reach the success of its predecessors, both making more than USD 2 billion each at the box office.

It also wasn't able to surpass "Zootopia 2," which has now made USD 1.744 billion.
