"Minions & Monsters" records franchise lowest in its US opening

7 Jul - "Minions & Monsters" might have topped the box office chart in the US in its weekend opening, but the animated feature did not do as well as its previous movies when it comes to the numbers.

It was reported that the film, which was released during the long 4 July weekend, made USD 36.4 million at the box office, a record low for the franchise. It is noted that the last related film of the franchise, "Despicable Me 4" was able to make USD 120 million at the box office in the first five days two years ago.

Meanwhile, the highest opening number was recorded by the 2022 film, "Minions: The Rise of Gru," which made USD 122 million.

However, "Minions & Monsters" did well overseas, amassing USD 98.43 million.

"Supergirl" did much worse last week with USD 37.1 million

This is the second film in a row to have recorded a low opening number. DC's "Supergirl" amassed only USD 37.1 million at the box office when it was released last week.

The story of "Minions & Monsters" takes place in 1927, 41 years before the events of the first Minions movie, and follows the Minions as they aim to make a monster movie of their own.
