16 Jun - Remy Ishak recently admitted that he is not fond of his character Awang in the new movie, "Khadam" due to the nature of the character.

The actor, who plays a strict, bad-tempered father in the horror movie, stated that the heaviness of the role did not only affect him, but also the child actors playing his children.

"I needed to be strict and fierce, and that is what I needed to show the kids. All I could think about was what would they think of me? Will they think this is who Remy Ishak is?" he said.

Remy said that he believes that the two child actors, Zarra Zhaff and Karl' El, might still be afraid of him, as they still seemed awkward with him at promotional events for the movie.

Asked how he got back to being himself after successfully portraying the character, Remy admitted that it was better for him to maintain being in character throughout the filming period because it was difficult to recreate the heavy emotions needed to make the character successful.

"I can't let go of the character of Awang because the process of finding him again the next day requires a lot of energy. I have to rebuild that anger and emotion to the point where it can cause migraines. That's why I felt it was best to maintain the character of Awang throughout filming because I'm still not good at living between two worlds easily," he said.

"Khadam", directed by Shamyl Othman, tells the story of a woman, who finds herself losing her own grasp of her life after the supernatural "servant" she inherited begins to take over her role as wife and mother.

The film has been in cinemas since 11 June and has since crossed RM1.2 million at the box office within its first four days of release.
