8 Jul - Tamil nationalist political party Naam Tamilar Katchi is calling for the recently announced NTR Jr movie to be banned in Tamil Nadu, despite the fact that it hasn't even gone on floors yet.

NTK chief Seeman recently took to X to express his protest, saying that the production will face severe repercussions if they proceed with the project, calling the "NTR-TRIVIKRAM" (working title) movie "an attempt to distort Tamil history and culture."

He also urged the Tamil Nadu government to prohibit the release of the movie if no alterations are made.

The whole issue sparked after the makers announced the project with the logline "Born in the North. Forged in the Heartland. Worshipped in the South. Now... A tale destined to belong to the universe."

While it did not explain what the movie was about, many speculated that the film will be about Lord Murugan, and questioned the statement that the deity was "born in the North".

Seeman stated that portraying Lord Murugan as being born in the northern plains was an insult to Tamil identity and history.

"From time immemorial, the most ancient, primal god of Tamils, inseparably intertwined with Tamil culture and way of life, is Lord Muruga Peruman. Tamil is Murugan; Murugan is Tamil; the two are inseparable," he added.

The producers have not responded to NTK's backlash at the time of writing.
