Malaysian Beyond fans unite for screening of "Because Of You Ka Kui"

"Because of You Ka Kui" opens on 11 June

8 Jun - The "Because of You Ka Kui × Re:spect" Tribute Concert was successfully held at Aurum Theatre, The Exchange TRX, on 6 June - attracting many Beyond fans and music lovers who came together to honour the musical legacy and creative spirit of the legendary Hong Kong band's frontman, Wong Ka Kui.

The audience in attendance was the first in the world to watch the theatrical release version of "Because of You Ka Kui". This version was specially completed for the official cinema release and presented according to theatrical standards, bringing together the film's visuals, sound, pacing, and precious content in a format designed for the big screen. Through this more complete and immersive cinema experience, audiences were able to rediscover the real and deeply moving side of Wong Ka Kui.

In addition to the special screening of the extended film version featuring exclusive additional footage, the event also featured a live tribute performance by The Re:spect Band formed by rock musicians from Hong Kong and Malaysia. The line-up was especially meaningful, bringing together Sito and Joseph from Malaysian rock band Alienoid, as well as Jimmy Mak, Kim Poon and Joshua from Hong Kong, who share a deep connection with Beyond's musical legacy, together with Jesper Chan, founder of Re:spect. Together, they paid tribute to Wong Ka Kui through music.

Sito, who was previously a guest performer at Beyond's 1996 Malaysia concert and Yip Sai Wing's concert in Malaysia, shared that it was especially rare and meaningful this year to gather with music friends from Hong Kong and Malaysia to honour Wong Ka Kui through music and memories. He said that being a part of performances and creating music related to "Because of You Ka Kui" was a deeply meaningful act of tribute and continuation.

A live tribute performance celebrates Ka Kui's musical legacy

"Because of You Ka Kui" presents the most authentic Wong Ka Kui, a man with youthful determination and sincerity, who always insisted on connecting with the world through music. The film also includes many precious and previously unseen materials, including live Beyond performance footage, the story behind the creation of "2nd Floor Back Suite," a full record of the band's journey to Kenya, and Ka Kui's unreleased works, allowing audiences to gain a deeper understanding of the inner world of this legendary musician.

Although the night's special screening and tribute concert have successfully concluded, this is not the end, but the beginning of the film's official release. Malaysia will see the first official theatrical release of "Because of You Ka Kui" in the world, with the film opening in cinemas nationwide on 11 June 2026. All Beyond fans, supporters of Ka Kui, music lovers, and film audiences are warmly invited to visit cinemas from 11 June to rediscover Wong Ka Kui on the big screen, and experience the music, spirit and influence that still resonate today.
