12 Jan – While "Jana Nayagan" has yet to be given a new release date following its postponement due to ongoing censorship issues with India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), fans of Vijay will be happy to know that his old movie is coming back to the big screen this Pongal. Production company V Creations announced that Vijay's 2016 film, "Theri" will be re-released in theatres on 15 January to mark its 10th anniversary. Malaysia and Singapore release dates to be announced soon. The movie, helmed by Atlee of "Jawan" fame, has Vijay in a dual role, and tells the story of a police officer who sacrifices his police career to raise his daughter, only to face his past when her life is threatened.
The film co-stars Nainika, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Amy Jackson among others. "Jana Nayagan" had to be postponed from its scheduled 9 January release after the CBFC sent the film to its Revising Committee on grounds of "religious sentiments" and portrayal of defence forces. The Madras High Court has issued a stay order on the film's release.
