Japanese Film Festival is back for its 22nd edition from 10 September until 18 October 2026 exclusively at GSC cinemas across Malaysia. JFF will run in Klang Valley (GSC Mid Valley, GSC 1 Utama, GSC MyTOWN) from 10 to 16 September 2026, Penang (GSC Gurney Plaza) from 17 to 20 September 2026, Johor Bahru (GSC Paradigm Mall JB) from 24 to 27 September 2026. In October it will head over to Kuching, Sarawak (GSC CityONE Megamall) between 8 and 11 October 2026 and finally land in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah (GSC Suria Sabah) from 15 to 18 October 2026.
JFF 2026 will feature 14 films across a variety of genres, including anime, kabuki-related films, suspense, comedy, heartfelt dramas and 4K remastered classics.
This year's festival opens with "Tokyo Taxi", the latest film by acclaimed director Yamada Yoji, alongside a special retrospective celebrating his remarkable career and legacy. The retrospective also includes "A Distant Cry From Spring", "Tora-San's Many Splintered Love". Other highlights at the festival: "Renjishi (The Father And Son Shishi Lions)", a lineup of 'Girl Power' films such as "Fujiko", "Purehearted" and the 4K Remastered version fo "Hula Girls", as well as two beautifully restored 4K classics, including a film by legendary director Kurosawa Akira.
