I have a confession to make. I haven't watched "Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam", so I wouldn't know how good this prequel really is. But I definitely enjoyed it, and was downright impressed with it, and there's a very good chance that you will be entertained by this movie's enthralling and captivating cinematograpy too. However, the story is ridiculously confusing.

"Pontiank Harum Sundal Malam 2" (PHSM2) picks up where the prequel ends as it continues to explore the tragic tale of Meriam (Maya Karin), the remorseful pontianak . Meriam has returned once again to her village to cause mayhem and sleepless nights for her ex-villagers. Maya Karin also plays Maria, a girl in the same village as Meriam. The innocent Maria ends up being possessed by Meriam.

The award-winning "PHSM2" is a story that beats around the bush. It is definitely not one of the writer's groundbreaking piece of work as the movie tried to blend Maria and Meriam's lives together to a sad jumble of mess. But the good news is, you will want to follow the interesting development of the story despite the mess that you're getting.

Although "PHSM2" is a poor story, it is lucky to have great companions in the likes of cinematography, sounds and special effects, making "PHSM2" a journey that is worth your while. As you walk through the movie, you will be amazed by its sights and sounds as the moving and beautiful cinematography and musical score tickle your horror fancies. Nevermind that the story's quality is no good, the movie's cinematography, sounds and special effects are of high quality.

Maya's acting in this movie needs little brushing up. The actress comes as the whole package; looks, talent, charisma, and in "PHSM2", she brings all that to the big screen and is able to captivate audience.

Overall, "PHSM2" has a pretty hapless storyline but it is saved by the movie's excellent standards of sights, sounds and special effects.
