The film opens with a scene of Sivaji (Superstar Rajinikanth) in jail. There is a clash of opinions as rich ministers and politicians accuse him of wrongdoing whilst the poor and needy protest in support of his innocence as a decent man. The plot then shifts backwards to the events that build up to his imprisonment.

Sivaji arrives from the United States of America as a rich and successful businessman. Having decided that he has worked enough, he intends to do goodwill for his country by helping the poor and needy, with plans to set up a 'Sivaji University' and 'Sivaji Hospital'. Meanwhile, his parents and 'mama', (which means uncle), have plans for him to get married and propose many beautiful westernised girls. Sivaji however wishes to marry an Indian girl who is close to her culture and roots, and with the help of his mama, played by Vivek, visits numerous temples till he finally lays eyes on Tamichelvi (Shriya). Efforts to win her over is hilarious indeed.

In his attempts to set up his university and hospital, Sivaji gets caught in traps set by corrupt and money-minded authorities led by politician Aadhi (Suman). Accused of bribing, Sivaji loses the court case and is left without a penny, and after a chain of events, lands in jail. From here, the plot twists and leads to a very interesting finish.

Numerous things in this movie are superb. It is indeed true that Rajinikanth and director, S. Shankar are the 'dream team' for their effort has certainly produced a mindblowing blockbuster! The entire cast provided a solid performance full of stunts and action. This time his new line is the word 'cool', with coin and chewing gum tossing sequences. With his ever changing hairstyles, interesting outfits and his fit physique, this 57 year old powerhouse is bound to amaze. Shriya looks absolutely stunning especially in the dance scenes. Nayantara does a special appearance in the first song and there are also other acclaimed actors in this film such as Raghuvaran, Prakash Raj and Manivannan.

Music director A. R. Rahman does not disappoint with his choice of songs. Apart from being catchy and modern with a mix of traditional music, the sets are awesome and picturesque. Worthy of mention is the beautiful setting of the song 'Vaaji Vaaji' and 'Sahara'. Shriya's lovely clothes are sure to create a new fashion statement in the Indian clothing industry.

Overall, Sivaji has lots to offer. From graphics to cinematography, from music to acting, one won't have to question why there was such a big buzz over this movie!
