Watch this if you liked: “1981's My Bloody Valentine", "Valentine" and "Jason X"

"My Bloody Valentine" is one horror movie that will remind you of those in the classic slasher era, in the likes of Jason, Michael Myers or even Freddy "Very Fashionable" Krueger. At the same time, this 1981 remake also feels like a longer version of CW hit TV series 'Supernatural' sans Jared Padalecki, what with Jensen Ackles as the lead. While it was shown in 3D in some territories, it comes as a blessing in disguise if you only caught the 2D version - you wouldn't feel like blood is splattering into your popcorn.

This is a movie that has a cast comprising of B-grade horror movie actors like Jaime King (last seen in Malaysian cinema being blonde in "They Wait") and Jensen Ackles, not to mention a supporting cast who are more or less people who can't act, people who are there just to be naked (you may not get to see this if you're in a scissor-happy territory), people who act like they're constipated and a kid who has no emotion.

It's a senseless gore fest. However, unlike other senseless slasher fun, "My Bloody Valentine" is unattractive and somewhat irritating. The acting is uninspiring and the plot is all over the place. There is a lack of continuity and most of the time you want to smack Jaime King's character for being extremely useless and hysterical from start to finish. The script is horrendous and it gives you a sense of deja vu, like you've heard the lines before - in five different films! Then again, it's a slasher movie. What do you expect?

The only thing that may interest audiences is the miner get-up. It may not be as thrilling as seeing Freddy's red and white stripe shirt with his bowler's hat but apparently miners clothing resembles that of soldiers working on chemical weaponry in World War II. Perhaps only this writer sees that.

My bloody valentine? Bloody annoying miner, more like. All you get is one slashed-and-hacked movie. Maybe, that is the horror part, eh?
