If you were a big fan of "Heat" (1995), you would probably love this new action movie starring the same actors, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. "Righteous Kill" is one of those movies that a lot of people have just been looking forward to because it has two of the greatest actors of our generation. Unfortunately, the movie is total disappointment for people who have been eager to see Al Pacino and De Niro in screen together.
"Righteous Kill" tells a story about Detectives Turk (Robert De Niro) and Rooster (Al Pacino) is on the trail of a serial killer who's been knocking off some of the worst criminals in the city. Eventually, it becomes clear that the killer is one of them and soon suspicion begins to fall on Turk, while Rooster try to clear his partner's name.
There is some action in this movie that keeps the audiences entertained. However, the storyline is a bit confusing and takes quite some time for people to understand it. Once you get the idea, you can see the plot clearly, leading up to the twist. Then, it is not hard to work out and some might say the plot is predictable and unimaginative.
In terms of acting performances, the two leading men do just average in this action flick. These two legendary actors really look old now and we will wonder how can they be cops, lift weights, get into fights and win convincingly. Carla Gugino ("American Gangster", "Watchmen") plays Karen Corelli, Turk's girlfriend. The sexy actress does a great job and look stunning like she always does in all her movies.
It is quite disappointing to see these two greats in this movie because we know they have been part of some of the most wonderful pictures ever made. You will be entertained by "Righteous Kill" but you probably won't remember it.Cinema Online, 27 March 2009
