During the bloody days of Fulgencio Batista dictatorship (March 1953-December 1958) Santiago de Cuba is a "city in red". Organised clandestine resistance is the way out of tyranny and no better place than Santiago de Cuba, the "Heroic City", to attest that. Based on the novel "Bertillon 166" (Casa de las Americas Prize 1960) the movie brings the spectator back during 24 hours in Santiago, where heroism, passion, love, fraternal and family links, treason, and death are the component of everyday life. It is also a reflection about violence from the point of view of those forced into it.
