Watch this if you liked: "Something's Gotta Give"

From the director of "What Women Want" (2000), "Something's Gotta Give" (2003) and "The Holiday" (2006), comes "It's Complicated". If we compare director Nancy Meyers to any successful director like Steven Spielberg or James Cameron, she's virtually anonymous. However, she writes and directs romantic comedies that are absolutely better than most and casts high-profile stars. Meyers has been known for making movies for and about middle-aged women, which is a neglected demographic that's growing all the time.

In this pleasurable comedy, a well-to-do restaurant owner, Jane Adler (Meryl Streep) finds herself sleeping with her ex-husband (Alec Baldwin), who divorced her for a younger model ten years ago during their youngest son's graduation. At the same time, she met an amiable architect Adam (Steve Martin) and falls for him!

This movie is clearly designed for middle-aged audiences, but that does not mean those outside that demographic will not enjoy it. Of course there are some ups and downs throughout the movie, but this reviewer feels like Meyer has successfully developed a confidence for middle-aged characters to not be afraid to indulge in their desires, in this case - sex.

The immerse charms between the lead actors is one of the reasons "It's Complicated" succeeds. Meryl Streep was Golden Globe nominated for her role in this movie and obviously we know why. It is clear that her ability to play almost any role elevates Streep as the exception to the rule of actresses' over forty struggling to remain successful in this industry. Meanwhile, we will be smitten by Baldwin's spectacular performance as Jake. This Emmy-award winner for his role in popular TV series "30 Rock" was rumoured to retire from his acting career in 2012. Whereas Steve Martin is playing a character that is slightly astray from his previous family fare films such as "Cheaper By The Dozen" and "Father Of The Bride" series.

The chemistry between leads and good humour together carries the movie surprisingly far. Meyers delivers her generation's revenge for all those teen movies and in her world, its people from the age of 50 - 60 something who will get to have all the fun.
