Watch this if you liked: “Kuruvi”, “Vettaikaran”

Director S P Rajkumar who earlier made family-oriented comedy films, tries his with a run-of-the-mill commercial action film in "Sura". This much-awaited 50th movie starring Vijayt has a lot of the usual fare that is combined from his earlier films.

Sura (Vijay) is a daring do-gooder fisherman who helps the poor and needy in a fishing village called Yath Nagar. A rich girl Poornima (Tamannah) falls madly in love with him after seeing his kind personality. Meanwhile local smuggler-turn-minister Raja (Dev Gill) wants to appropriate the land where the fishermen village is located to build a theme park there. The rest of the story is all about how Sura uses his brains and brute muscle power to defeat Raja and live happily ever after with his lady love.

Vijay does his standard hero role and excesl in his dancing and fighting skills. The film looks like it was made just for Vijay to promote his image for his political activities in real life. Tamannah's talent is wasted here and she appears only in some dance sequences as a glamour doll. Newcomer Dev Gill looks menacing and refreshing in his character. Vadivelu's comedy scenes run on a separate track and there is nothing much to laughter about, really. Mani Sharma's music and songs are all fast moving numbers and 'Thanjavoor Jilla' is a nice foot tapping chartbuster.

The negative aspects of "Sura" include its illogical narration and lengthy duration. The film could have been better if they trimmed away those unwanted songs and comedy tracks. Do not expect anything new in this film as it's just another film in Vijay's career. However his hardcore fans out there won't find any reason to miss it.
