World War Z

Based on the book of the same title by Max Brooks, "World War Z" is a post-apocalyptic horror film that tells the story of a UN representative. Brad Pitt plays Gerry Lane, a U.N. employee who scours the world, interviewing survivors of the Zombie apocalypse, referred to as World War Z. The United Nations left out much of his work from the official report, choosing to focus on facts and figures from the war rather than the individual stories. These interviews chart a decade-long war against zombies from the view point of many different people of various nationalities, as well as the changing religious, geo-political, and environmental landscape of the survivors.

Watch this if you liked: "District 9", "Prometheus" and "Resident Evil"

If you think you won't be jumping out of your seat in horror every now and then you would be sorely mistaken. This film was more fun than anyone could have imagined, especially after watching the trailers. "World War Z" still has serious drama but if you are looking to have fun watching really fast zombies control world populations and wondering how you would survive in a world like it, then you are in luck.

Watching the film itself will make you feel like you are with the main character, Gerry, played by none other than Brad Pitt. Though the film does not obviously make it seem like you are, but you will definitely feel like you are living in the world with everyone else in the film. You are going to feel endangered, unsafe and as vulnerable as the characters going through the near apocalyptic world.

Before going in to watch the film, the reviewer had high hopes and really wanted it to be good enough to rave about as there was a possibility that the film might be boring because it does not have enough action or suspense, or even humour to keep it alive.

Thank goodness that the film exceeded the expectations and gave it more than we asked for. It had enough suspense to keep us on the edge of our seats, it had bits of comedy here and there and Brad Pitt surprised us by making us laugh, even though he mostly had a serious role. The film even had genuine horror in it, and audiences will have to bite their own tongue trying to muffle out some shocks, screams and gasps.

The world that they have painted showed us how terrifying it would be if there was a zombie infection spreading, and you will be glad to come out of the theatre knowing that we live in a much healthier world in comparison.

Knowing that Brad Pitt's company bought the rights to make the movie out of the book of the same name, shows that he was passionate about this project, and his acting was better than some of his previous work. Overall, he had done a very good job starring in the film and also gave the audience exactly what we wanted in a starring role; an attractive A-lister who can give us a range of emotion, and keep us entertained.

Other favourite characters include "Game Of Thrones" actor Elyes Gabel as Fassbach, "Iron Man 3" and "Flight" actor James Badge Dale as Captain Speke and Peter Capaldi as a W.H.O. doctor. All three of them had small roles but coming from a well-written book, the character were also worth talking about despite how little the screen time was for them. Though each of them helped Pitt's character through the journey in steps and kept the audience on their toes.

The music should also be noted, and fans of rock band Muse would be ecstatic to find out that they were responsible for additional music in the movie's soundtrack. Their haunting melody is played in certain scenes and it played a big part in the atmosphere itself.

Speaking of atmosphere, watching "World War Z" in 3D meant that we would be ducking and covering our faces at times and the effects seen like the zombies themselves were both beautiful and horrific. The make up on the zombies should also be commended. It might have looked just slightly unreal, but it is still amazingly done. The zombie extras were also fun to watch.

All in all, it was a movie that is very well done, and it is definitely the best apocalyptic film that has been done so far, compared to bore-fests like "2012" and "The Day After Tomorrow". And adding the zombies in the mixture didn't hurt either.

It isn't like "Zombieland" or "Shaun Of The Dead" because "World War Z" not only concentrated on Gerry's family, they concentrated on the whole world and fed our curious minds to what happened to the rest while the hero shoulders on. The only thing that needed to be picked on is that some scenes extended too much of the suspense, which made the film seem a lot longer.
