Watch this if you liked: "There’s Something About Mary" and " Mr. & Mrs. Smith"

If you had not read about the synopsis of the film before you watched it, you would probably think that "Blind Detective" was about a detective being "blind-in-love", but this film is literally about a blind detective.

With stars like Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng, you already know that the stars performances will not be lacking and you get to not just appreciate the story-telling, but also how it is told.

In the perspective of someone who has not watched a lot of movies from Hong Kong, what was extremely fascinating about the film was the strangely morbid and violent sense of humour, and the very few films the reviewer has seen from the same country also had the same themes.

"Blind Detective" is fast paced and exciting, and they had plenty of comedy to keep us entertained and enough depth to make it worthwhile to watch at the theatres, however, those with a weak tolerance to violence should take caution that it has some pretty intense scenes.

With that being said, those weirdly violent scenes are what should attract you to watching it. Almost everyone involved in the crimes are psychopaths from different degrees, which makes for some of the most interesting characters.

You should especially watch it if you love buddy cops or crime detective shows and films that also have the same sexual intensity as detective stories like "Sherlock Holmes". Though Andy Lau and Sammi Cheng did not seem to have as much sexual chemistry as those paired in any "Sherlock Holmes" adaptation, they did work rather well with each other.

Andy Lau is engaging as the blind detective himself. Looking back, it would have been a very difficult task to play a believable blind guy, especially in a role where he is not just blind but has an interestingly unattractive personality. The role demanded a good amount of talent and Lau definitely brings it.

Sammi Cheng also held her own in her role as the sweet and feisty character she portrays. She also plays someone who is hopelessly in love with Lau's character and it was great to see them in roles that are usually associated with the opposite gender.

In terms of the story, it is exciting and inviting as you try to figure out the mystery with them as the movie plays along. The story also had an angle not normally seen in other films; in fact it is difficult to compare it to other films because the combination of the black comedy and the romantic chemistry between the two characters.

It is recommended that you watch this if you are a fan of detective movies that have more of an edge. Though it does have some romantic parts it does not really get too mushy and you will be able to enjoy it on the whole even if you do detest romance. It still satisfies those who do love romantic comedies and those who appreciate Lau and Cheng together, because they are quite a team.
