Watch this if you liked: "Safe" & "Bangkok Dangerous"

If you enjoy films like Jason Statham's "Safe" (2012) and Nicolas Cage "Bangkok Dangerous" (2008), then "Hummingbird" which also holds the international title "Redemption", is just that kind of B grade action drama that's overdoses on too much adrenaline and lags on the lack of drama.

To give the movie what it's worth, Jason Statham after all, has his own action star style status which fans have come to expect of the English actor, so walking into this film will give them exactly what they've come to expect especially when it comes to Statham's serious as a heart attack persona and his 'beat the crap out of everyone that gets in his way' Modus Operandi.

As tough as it to believe, the story actually starts out with Statham's Joey Smith as a homeless person roaming the streets of a dank and depressingly set London. Before this however, it is explained that Joey is a former special forces soldier, who is forced to go into hiding. When one day he stumbles (literally) into another man's home, he finds that he could have another life, but unbeknownst to him, this identity comes with its own set of baggage which then leads to a sinister mob in London's Chinatown and a helpful nun which drives him towards revenge when his girlfriend gets murdered.

Truly an English production with Statham and screenwriter Steve Knight ("Eastern Promises") turned director in his debut, this movie oozes solid seriousness so don't expect the Guy Ritchie-esque English action film which has layers of characters and mood dimensions, as with "Hummingbird" despite the bit of fantasy like elements, what you see is what you get (provided that you can actually see through the film which is set at mostly night-time).
