It is no wonder that "Pee Mak" has become the highest grossing film in Thailand. You may go into the theatre to watch a scary Thai horror film like "Long Weekend", but you will stay instead for the comedy and the story itself, as it is concentrates more on those two elements, rather than the horror.

But don't let that factor disappoint you, as the movie is pretty funny and surprisingly charming. It does have some scary bits in the film that would make you jump out of your seat or sweat from anxiety, but for the faint-hearted this would definitely be a great "horror" film to entice you to watch more scary films, like how comedy "Shaun Of The Dead" enticed many people to watch zombies more.

"Pee Mak" is only one of the films based on a famous Thai-folklore of a ghost. It is also said that the story is based on actual events that took place during the early 19th century. And with so many movies that were made based on this event, "Pee Mak" stood out from the rest because of their comedic approach.

With a comedic approach to stories, most of them are bound to stink and cause disappointment if they are not done right. However, this film had a particularly charming approach to a subtle yet powerful way of telling the story. Their comedy did not fail to catch audience's attention.

When you watch the beginning and try to figure out the story, they have already started using their humour early on and you might not fully understand their comedy potential yet until you get to know more about some of the main characters, or the "best friends" from War.

As you progress through the film, you'll definitely be attached to all of them as their chemistry between each other is flawless and smooth. All the main characters, including the ghost wife and the husband go really well with each other, and it is rare to see that in a film, which is why the film worked so well.

This film is definitely a must-see for everyone, whether you are a horror fan or would simply love to watch something that would bust your gut yet tell you a good story or a legend. It might not be Oscar-worthy, but you will definitely consider a second watch after your first.
