The movie takes place after the events of the anime series` second season. During the graduation ceremony of the third-year students, the defending champions of the school idol tournament μ`s (Muse) plan to dissolve their group after the graduation of their senior members. However, as they attempt to leave the school gates, they receive a single email telling them that there will be a new concert event, which opens the curtain on a new story for μ`s.

Filem ini berkisarkan selepas kejadian pada musim kedua siri anime "Love Live! School Idol Project". Ketika majlis graduasi pelajar tahun ketiga, juara bertahan idola sekolah u's (Muse) merancang untuk membubarkan kumpulan mereka selepas tamat pengajian. Bagaimanapun, ketika mereka mahu keluar dari sekolah, mereka telah menerima emel yang memberitahu bahawa akan ada sebuah konsert baru, sekaligus membuka kisah baru u's.
