Jose has been sent by the employment agency to an industrial pavilion just outside Madrid as an extra for the tapings of a New Year`s Eve television special, which is recorded four months in advance. He is locked in there for weeks with hundreds of others like him, applauding for musical performances they don`t actually see and celebrating the false arrival of the New Year. He starts falling for his dinner companion Paloma. Unknown to him, two major clashes of egos are unfolding backstage. Veteran crooner Alphonso and his rival, Latin pop sensation Adanne, both want to get the most watched performance of the night.

Jose telah dihantar oleh agensi pekerjaan ke balai perindustrian di luar Madrid sebagai penonton tambahan untuk rancangan TV Malam Tahun Baru, yang direkod empat bulan awal. Dia berada di sana selama beberapa minggu bersama ratusan orang sepertinya, menepuk dan bersorak untuk persembahan muzik yang mereka sebenarnya tidak lihat dan menyambut sambutan Tahun Baru palsu. Dia mula jatuh hati dengan teman makan malamnya Paloma. Tanpa diketahuinya, pertembungan dua ego besar sedang berlaku di belakang pentas di antara penyanyi veteran Alphonso dan musuhnya penyanyi pop sensasi Latin, Adanne, yang mana masing-masing mahu mendapat tontonan terbanyak untuk persembahan mereka.
