Ryota is a private detective who keeps dwelling on his past glory as a prize-winning author. He uses up all of the money he makes on gambling and can barely pay child support. After his father`s death, his aging mother and beautiful ex-wife seem to be moving on with their lives while Ryota is still stuck in his past. As he tries to reconnect with his distrustful family, Ryota struggles to take back control of his existence and to find a lasting place his young son`s life - until a stormy summer night offers them a chance to truly bond again.
Ryota adalah seorang penulis tidak popular walaupun dia pernah memenangi anugerah 15 tahun lalu. Sekarang, Ryota bekerja sebagai penyiasat persendirian. Dia telah bercerai dengan bekas isterinya Kyoko dan mempunyai seorang anak lelaki berusia 11 tahun, Shingo. Ibunya Yoshiko tinggal berseorangan di sebuah apartment. Satu hari, Ryota, bekas isterinya dan anak mereka telah berkumpul di apartment Yoshiko. Ketika itu ribut taufan telah melanda dan mereka harus tinggal di situ sepanjang malam.
