Chasing The Dragon

Set in the `60s, Ho is man who has slipped into Hong Kong from Mainland China, where at the time Hong Kong Police Force is in cahoots with the triads under British colonial rule. He later receives help from Detective Lee Rock to escape further torture by British Police, thanks to his fighting skills. He becomes known as Crippled Ho when he sacrifices his right leg while saving Rock in a gang fight. The two form a closer bond and each separately rules the upper-world and underworld of Hong Kong. At the same time, they secretly keep tabs on each other, ensuring the balance of power between them. The establishment of ICAC in 1974 forces Rock to retire prematurely but Ho is determined to become the sole dictator of the drug empire.
Berlatarbelakangkan pada tahun 60an, seorang lelaki bernama Ho telah terlepas ke Hong Kong dari Tanah Besar China, di mana ketika itu Hong Kong dibelenggu dengan masalah kongsi gelap di bawah pentadbiran British. Dia kemudian mendapat bantuan daripada Detektif Lee Rock untuk melarikan diri dari seksaan Polis British. Dia mula dikenali sebagai Crippled Ho apabila dia mengorbankan kaki kanannya ketika menyelamatkan Rock dalam satu pertempuran kumpulan. Kedua-dua mereka mula menjadi rapat dan mula menguasai Hong Kong. Penubuhan ICAC pada tahun 1974 telah memaksa Rock untuk bersara awal tetapi Ho masih nekad untuk menjadi raja dadah.

The Good, the Bad and the Drug Lord:

• The movie borrows elements and characters from two 1991 movies "Lee Rock" and "To be Number One", and turns it into one of the best gangster flicks out there.

• Coming from director Wong Jing who is known for his recently bad comedy flicks like "Mission Milano" and "From Vegas to Macau" franchise, the movie is actually very decent and downright entertaining.

• It is kind of like the Hong Kong version of "The Godfather", and everything from the production design, action choreography, and acting are notably brilliant.

• Donnie Yen and Andy Lau give a fine performance, and their exchange with each other is fun to watch.

Trivia:

• This is the first collaboration between Donnie Yen and Andy Lau, and the first collaboration between Yen and director Wong Jing in 20 years.
