The Promise (KKIFF)

The documentary tells the crime story of the double murder of Derek and Nancy Haysom on 30 March 1985 in Lynchburg, Virginia. Jens Soering, the geeky son of a German diplomat, and Elizabeth Haysom, the daughter of the murdered couple, are convicted of murdering the two respected members of the society. The murder convictions sent shock waves through the small rural community. When Jens and Elizabeth are arrested, Jens confesses to the murder in order to save Elizabeth from the electric chair, but nobody believes him when he said that promised her to take the blame on himself. From their honours classes at the University of Virginia to life sentences in prisons 35 miles apart, it`s the story of a deadly love. After spending 30 years in jail, new evidence from the documentary have shown a mismanaged, or perhaps corrupt, judicial process, with stunning evidence that was previously suppressed or deemed inadmissible.
