Based on real events about Brazil`s involvement in World War II, the country sent more than 25,000 soldiers to fight in Europe. Almost all of these soldiers came from rural and poor backgrounds, and with no previous military experience, they had to learn in practice to fight for survival at the front. During the freezing winter of 1944, the men of landmine clearance unit from the Brazilian Expeditionary Force is hit by a panic-attack that sets them running aimlessly and losing each other. The soldiers must now try to defuse the mined road that separates them from a village monitored by enemy forces. On their way there, the soldiers get unexpected assistance from two deserters - an Italian soldier trying to join the Partigianos and a German officer who is simply tired of war.
