Padmaavat

Rani Padmavati (aka Padmini), a legendary Hindu Rajput queen, is said to be one of the most beautiful women to ever exist. She is married to a noble king, Rana Rawal Ratan Singh, the Rajput ruler of Mewar, and both of them live in a prosperous fortress with their subjects. Their perfect life takes an unfortunate turn when an ambitious Sultan, Allauddin Khilji, hears of Padmavati`s beauty and forms an obsessive love for her. Alauddin Khilji is one of the most brutal rulers in Khilji dynasti, known for attacking states only for their land and women, and his invasion into Mewar is no different.
Ia sebuah naskhah yang diangkat dari kisah Rani Padmini, iaitu lagenda ratu Hindu Rajput dalam sajak Padmavat. Dalam sajak itu menyatakan dia adalah isteri kepada Ratan Sen yang merupakan pemerintah di Mewar. Pada 1303, pemerintah Turko-Afghan, Alauddin Khilji, melakukan pengepungan terhadap Chittor Fort di Rajputana. Menurut Padmavat, Khilji telah mengetuai penjajahan itu kerana mahu menangkap Rani Padmini. Rani Padmini dikatakan telah melakukan 'jauhar' bersama wanita-wanita lain di bandar untuk melindungi maruah mereka. Kesemua lelaki keluar untuk bertempur sebelum mereka tumpas.
