Shunnosuke Katagiri is a samurai, who is also a bookworm, that has been tasked with helping Naonori Matsudaira relocate. The unfortunate Daimyo is nicknamed "the vagabond lord" as he has been forced to move across Japan from west to east seven times. Knowing that his failure might result in him being ordered to commit ritual suicide, the shy, naïve and inexperienced Shunnosuke turns to Takamura, his childhood friend, and Oran, the beautiful and headstrong daughter of a former magistrate in charge of relocation, for help in concocting various outlandish schemes that he hopes would help with the relocation.

Berdasarkan novel berjudul "Hikkoshi Daimyo Sanzenri" oleh Akihiro Dobashi. Berlatarbelakangkan zaman Edo, ia mengisahkan tentang seorang samurai yang ulat buku, Shunnosuke Katagiri, yang menerima tugasan untuk membantu Daimyo (tuan besar), Naonori Matsudaira. Daimyo itu telah dipaksa berpindah dari barat ke timur Jepun sebanyak tujuh kali menyebabkan dia digelar 'the vagabond lord'. Jika gagal membantu, Shunnosuke mungkin akan disuruh mengambil nyawanya sendiri. Dia kemudian mendapatkan bantuan rakan karibnya, Takamura, dan Oran, anak perempuan kepada bekas majistret yang bertanggungjawab ke atas pemindahan.
