After her mother Chanda left the family, Cheata has to live with her father and stepmother, who often abuses her physically and mentally. This leaves the girl in a state of deep depression and every night she listens to Chanda`s lullaby while holding a photo of her, but this does little to heal Cheata`s pain. Due to this weakness, she falls under the control of the spirit of a French lady that possesses a clock. The lady died in 1940 following the death of her boyfriend, who was a clock engineer. She committed suicide after listening to "Gloomy Sunday", a song that caused a number of suicides. Her restless spirit returned with hopes to fulfil the yearnings of people suffering from depression.

Cheata seorang gadis yang kini tinggal bersama bapa dan ibu tirinya, selepas ibu kandungnya pergi meninggalkan keluarganya. Namun nasibnya malang apabila setiap hari dia didera oleh ibu tirinya secara mental dan fizikal, sehingga menyebabkan gadis itu mengalami kemurungan. Gambar dan nyanyian ibunya yang didengar setiap malam tidak mampu menenangkan hatinya. Gadis lemah yang dahagakan kasih sayang ibu kandungnya itu akhirnya dikawal oleh roh wanita Perancis yang tinggal dalam sebuah jam. Wanita Perancis itu telah membunuh diri pada tahun 1940 selepas kematian teman lelakinya, seorang jurutera jam. Kejadian itu berlaku selepas wanita itu mendengar sebuah lagu berhantu berjudul "Gloomy Sunday", yang turut menyebabkan kes bunuh diri meningkat pada waktu itu. Roh wanita yang tidak tenteram itu dikatakan mencari mangsa-mangsa yang mengalami kemurungan untuk membantu menunaikan hajat mereka.
